Ohio State Buckeyes true freshman quarterback Luke Fahey is poised to join an exclusive group of signal-callers who started as first-year players for the program. If he earns the starting role, Fahey would follow in the footsteps of Terrelle Pryor and Braxton Miller, the only two true freshmen to start at quarterback for Ohio State in the modern era.
The development comes as the Buckeyes evaluate their quarterback depth chart heading into the 2026 season. Fahey, a highly touted recruit, has impressed coaches with his poise and arm talent during fall camp.
Pryor started as a true freshman in 2008, leading the team to a Big Ten championship, while Miller took the reins in 2011 and eventually became a two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. Fahey's potential ascent would mark the first time since Miller that a true freshman has started under center for Ohio State.
Head coach Ryan Day has not officially named a starter, but Fahey's progress has fueled speculation that he could see the field early. The Buckeyes open their season against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
