The Miami Heat have unveiled a new statue of franchise legend Dwyane Wade outside Kaseya Center, replacing the original sculpture that faced widespread ridicule since its debut. The updated monument was revealed on October 27, 2024, in Miami, addressing years of jokes about the previous version's likeness.
Wade, a three-time NBA champion with the Heat, acknowledged the criticism surrounding the original statue. "I heard the jokes," the Hall of Famer said, referencing the social media commentary that followed the first unveiling. The organization worked with sculptors to create a more accurate representation of the 13-time All-Star.
The new bronze statue stands at the same location outside the team's arena, depicting Wade in his signature No. 3 jersey. The franchise icon spent 16 seasons in Miami across two stints, leading the team to championships in 2006, 2012, and 2013.
