Kenyan distance runner Hellen Obiri is preparing to defend her New York City Marathon title as she builds toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Obiri, a two-time world champion in the 5,000 meters, won the NYC Marathon in 2023 and aims to repeat the victory in the upcoming edition. The race serves as a key milestone in her quest for Olympic gold in Los Angeles.
Obiri's training has focused on marathon-specific endurance while maintaining her trademark speed. She enters the race as the defending champion and one of the favorites, with a field that includes several top contenders. A successful defense would strengthen her status as a leading contender for the Olympic marathon in 2028.
