Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers is emerging as a serious candidate for the head coaching position at North Carolina State University, according to a report by Trent Knoop published on Yahoo Sports on October 31, 2026.
Rivers, who played 17 seasons in the NFL primarily with the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers and Indianapolis Colts, has been connected to coaching opportunities since his retirement. The 44-year-old Alabama native played college football at NC State from 2000 to 2003, where he set numerous school and ACC records.
The Wolfpack program has been searching for a new direction, and Rivers' deep ties to the university combined with his extensive professional experience make him an intriguing option for the athletic department.
