Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne will miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after suffering a Jones fracture, according to a report from Yahoo Sports. The injury ends Payne's campaign prematurely, dealing a significant blow to Washington's defensive line.
A Jones fracture is a break in the fifth metatarsal bone of the foot, typically requiring surgery and an extended recovery period. The timetable for Payne's return aligns with a full season absence, meaning the Commanders will need to adjust their interior defensive rotation without one of their key starters.
Payne, a former first-round pick, has been a cornerstone of Washington's defense since entering the league. His absence leaves a notable gap in both run defense and pass rush production for the remainder of the season.
