The Milwaukee Brewers captured the World Series championship on Wednesday night, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 to deny the franchise its first title. The series-clinching victory came at the conclusion of the 2026 Fall Classic, with the Brewers prevailing in the decisive fifth game.
Tampa Bay, seeking its maiden World Series crown, fell short after advancing to the championship round. The Rays had previously reached the World Series in 2008 and 2020 but lost both times. Milwaukee's triumph marks the organization's first World Series championship since 1982, when the franchise was still in the American League.
The game concluded the 2026 Major League Baseball postseason, with the Brewers celebrating on the field after the final out. Christian Rauh reported on the outcome for Yahoo Sports.
