A former Los Angeles Chargers teammate of Philip Rivers has shared thoughts on rumors linking the retired quarterback to the NC State head coaching position. Rivers, who played 17 NFL seasons primarily with the Chargers and Indianapolis Colts, has been mentioned in speculation surrounding the Wolfpack program.
The former teammate, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that Rivers has typically been resistant to coaching opportunities since retiring after the 2020 season. Rivers served as a high school football coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama following his NFL career but has not pursued college or professional coaching roles.
NC State is currently evaluating candidates after Dave Doeren's departure. Rivers, a North Carolina native who played college football at NC State from 2000-2003, maintains strong ties to the university and region.
