Former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers has not ruled out the possibility of becoming the next head coach at North Carolina State University, according to a report by Craig Meyer for USA TODAY Sports. Rivers, who played college football at NC State from 2000 to 2003 before a 17-year NFL career, said "you never say never" when asked about the Wolfpack vacancy.
The comment comes as NC State searches for a replacement after Dave Doeren's departure. Rivers, 44, has served as a high school coach at St. Michael Catholic High School in Alabama since retiring from the NFL in 2021. He holds NC State records for passing yards and touchdowns and was a two-time ACC Player of the Year.
