Italian Formula One driver Kimi Antonelli secured his first world championship on Sunday at the Mexican Grand Prix, becoming the youngest-ever title winner in the sport's history. The Mercedes driver clinched the crown at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, marking a historic milestone for both the 18-year-old rookie and his team.

Antonelli's championship victory caps a remarkable debut season in which he consistently outperformed expectations. The Italian teenager joined Mercedes for the 2026 campaign and quickly adapted to the demands of top-level motorsport, delivering race wins and podium finishes throughout the year.

The Mexican Grand Prix provided the decisive moment as Antonelli finished strongly enough to mathematically secure the drivers' championship with races still remaining on the calendar. His achievement surpasses the previous record for youngest champion, cementing his place in Formula One history books.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff praised Antonelli's maturity and speed, noting that the young Italian has exceeded all pre-season projections. The championship also marks Mercedes' return to the top of the drivers' standings after a challenging period for the German manufacturer.
