Nebraska senior quarterback Anthony Colandrea has re-signed with the Huskers for the 2027 season, his agent confirmed to ESPN on Friday. The deal marks the first known player contract extension in program history, reflecting college football's evolving landscape of talent retention driven by name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreements and revenue sharing.

Colandrea's 2026 Season Performance

Colandrea, who transferred from UNLV last offseason, has an additional year of eligibility under the NCAA's "5-for-5" ruling. Through eight games, he has thrown for 1,570 yards with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions, while adding 339 rushing yards and four scores on the ground. His dual-threat ability has stabilized Nebraska's offense after the departure of former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, who transferred to Oregon following the 2026 campaign.

Agent and Coach Comments

"In today's college football landscape, where the challenges and obstacles seem to multiply by the week, getting a process like this across the finish line as cleanly and seamlessly as we did is no small thing," Colandrea's agent Noah Reisenfeld wrote in a message to CBS Sports. He praised Nebraska's staff, including Pat Stewart and Logan Holgerson, for their cooperation.

Earlier this month, head coach Matt Rhule revealed that several SEC programs were already tampering with his quarterback ahead of the transfer portal cycle that opens January 4. Rhule emphasized the importance of support for Colandrea, noting the Huskers' 5-0 start before consecutive three-point losses to Indiana and Oregon derailed their Big Ten championship hopes.

Team Statistics and Outlook

Entering Week 9, Nebraska ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring offense (35.5 points per game), fifth in total offense, and third in explosive plays. The Huskers' run game averages 194.3 yards per game, the most potent of Rhule's tenure. Colandrea credited the offensive line as the best he has played with, a unit bolstered by the portal acquisition of former South Carolina tackle "Big" Tree Babalade.

Colandrea is the second standout this season to re-sign with his current program, joining Oregon State wide receiver Jesse Legree. His return for 2027 provides a foundational piece for a team with College Football Playoff aspirations, especially with the expanded 24-team postseason format benefiting Big Ten contenders.
