Jets Rule Out Trading Garrett Wilson Before Deadline Despite Struggles

The New York Jets have made it clear they will not trade wide receiver Garrett Wilson before the November 10 deadline, despite a 2-5 record that has many viewing the team as sellers. Reports indicate the franchise considers Wilson off-limits, a stance that differs from last season when cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams were moved for draft picks. Ownership is said to be particularly high on Wilson after signing him to a four-year, $130 million extension last summer that runs through the 2030 season.

Wilson delivered a career-best 2023 campaign with 101 receptions for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns, and he remains the offense's primary target this year with a 25.8% target share. Through seven games he has 37 catches for 444 yards and three scores, leading the team in both categories. The organization's plan, according to reports, is to build around Wilson using draft capital acquired in last year's trades and add more talent through the 2027 draft cycle.

Wilson himself has repeatedly denied any desire to leave. "I want to be here, man," he said earlier this week. "I want to win games, and that's the one thing we've been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I'm hopeful." He acknowledged frustration with the losing but emphasized it stems from a desire to contribute. Quarterback Geno Smith echoed the commitment, stating he is "looking to get him the football as much as I can" while navigating defensive schemes designed to neutralize Wilson.
