Former New York Mets pitcher Jerry Koosman, who recorded the final out of the 1969 World Series to clinch the "Miracle Mets" championship, has died at the age of 83. The Associated Press reported his death on November 2, 2026.
Koosman, a left-handed starter, was a key member of the Mets' rotation during their historic 1969 season. He won 17 games that year and started Game 2 of the World Series against the Baltimore Orioles. In Game 5, he entered in relief and induced the final out, a fly ball to left field, securing New York's first World Series title.
Over a 19-year major league career, Koosman compiled 222 wins with a 3.36 ERA. He also played for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, and Philadelphia Phillies. He was a two-time All-Star and finished second in the 1968 National League Rookie of the Year voting.
