The CW network is reportedly interested in expanding its live sports programming by licensing College Football Playoff games from ESPN, according to a report published Tuesday.
The report, citing sources familiar with the matter, indicates that The CW Sports is in discussions to acquire rights to CFP games as part of a broader strategy to increase live sports content on the broadcast network.
ESPN currently holds the media rights to the College Football Playoff, which includes the semifinal games and the national championship. Any sublicensing agreement would require approval from ESPN and the CFP management committee.
The CW, which has recently added sports such as LIV Golf and ACC football to its lineup, sees live sports as a key driver for viewership and advertising revenue.
