Week 8 Fantasy Football Standouts Highlight Week 9 Waiver Wire Targets

Week 8 of the 2026 NFL season began with a slow offensive start but quickly turned into a breakout showcase for several players who could become valuable waiver wire additions for Week 9 fantasy football lineups.

Waiver Wire Standouts

Cam Ward, quarterback for the Tennessee Titans, delivered a coming-out party with his first career 300-plus passing game. Against a Cincinnati Bengals defense that had stepped up this year, Ward threw for 304 yards and two touchdowns while adding 41 rushing yards on seven scrambles. The Titans have a bye in Week 9, but Ward is worth monitoring in one-QB leagues and should be rostered in shallow superflex formats where he was previously released.

Tyler Allgeier, running back for the Arizona Cardinals, separated himself from Bam Knight in the backfield after top draft pick Jeremiyah Love left the game with another ankle injury. Allgeier rushed for 147 yards on 11 carries with a long touchdown and added 44 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown on five catches. If Love misses time, Allgeier could emerge as an RB2, and Arizona appears likely to lean more heavily on him than Knight moving forward.

Adonai Mitchell, wide receiver for the New York Jets, excelled with constant one-on-one matchups as the defense focused on Garrett Wilson. Mitchell caught seven of nine targets for 142 yards and a red-zone touchdown, showcasing one of the smoothest releases off the line seen this season.

Gardner Minshew, quarterback for the Cardinals, replaced Jacoby Brissett and provided an immediate spark, leading Arizona to one of the most improbable victories of the season. A return to Brissett seems unlikely, making Minshew a worthwhile add in all superflex formats.

Emmett Johnson, running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, proved to be more than just a handcuff. Operating as the third-down back, he ripped off a 73-yard receiving touchdown and surpassed 100 receiving yards. While his scoring upside is difficult to predict, he is a prime bench stash; an injury to starter Ken Walker would instantly vault Johnson into RB2 or borderline RB1 territory.

Standout Fantasy Performances

Harold Fannin Jr., tight end for the Cleveland Browns, continues to be unstoppable. The Browns are using him as an extension of their run game thanks to his ability to force missed tackles and create yards after contact. Fannin saw 12 targets, caught 10 passes for 154 yards, and is emerging as a top-five play at the position, especially in PPR formats.

Bucky Irving, running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, returned to his rookie-season form with 170 rushing yards, a touchdown, and a whopping 27 carries. The Buccaneers' defense is for real, and the run-heavy game plan could continue, making Irving the foundation of the offense.
