The Rugby Football Union has outlined its reasoning behind awarding Steve Borthwick a contract extension as England prepare for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. The decision ensures continuity in the coaching setup with the tournament on the horizon.
Borthwick, who took charge of England in December 2022, has been backed by the RFU hierarchy to lead the team into the global showpiece. The extension reflects confidence in his management despite a mixed run of results during his tenure.
Details regarding the length and terms of the new deal were not immediately disclosed. The RFU's explanation is expected to address the strategic rationale for retaining Borthwick rather than seeking a change so close to the World Cup.
