The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia, the financial backer of LIV Golf, is reportedly abandoning plans to launch a new golf league in 2027, according to an Associated Press report published on November 4, 2026.
PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who has been the public face of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund's investment in professional golf, was seen alongside LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman at the LIV Golf Invitational in Chicago in September 2022. The league has since attracted major players such as Jon Rahm, who captains the Legion XIII team and competed in the HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong event in March 2026.
The development comes amid ongoing discussions between LIV Golf and the DP World Tour, whose CEO Guy Kinnings appeared at the opening of the Trump International Golf Links in Scotland in July 2025. The reported decision to drop the 2027 league plan signals a potential shift in the Saudi fund's strategy for golf investments.
