St. John's Red Storm forward Ruben Prey is transitioning to a center role this season, with the sophomore seeing significant minutes during the team's exhibition game against the Texas Longhorns at Madison Square Garden on October 25, 2026.
Prey, wearing No. 17, handled the ball in the second half of the contest as the Red Storm prepare for the regular season. The 6-foot-9 player previously operated primarily as a forward but has been working on post play and rim protection during the offseason.
Head coach Rick Pitino has emphasized versatility in his frontcourt, and Prey's development at the five position could provide the team with additional lineup flexibility. The exhibition matchup against Texas served as an early test for the new alignment.
