India's white-ball captain Suryakumar Yadav has been omitted from Mumbai's squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season, but will lead the side in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy white-ball competitions.
The 34-year-old batter, who captains India in T20 Internationals, was left out of the red-ball setup in what reports describe as a shock omission. Mumbai selectors have instead named him captain for both the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy and the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournaments.
Yadav has been a prolific scorer in limited-overs cricket but has had limited opportunities in first-class cricket in recent years. The decision highlights the growing specialization between red-ball and white-ball formats in Indian domestic cricket.
