The Seattle Mariners have appointed former Houston Astros assistant hitting coach Jason Kanzler as their new manager, selecting him over fellow Astros coach Joe Espada for the role.
Kanzler, who served as Houston's assistant hitting coach, was photographed during Astros spring training workouts at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach on February 20, 2023. The hiring continues a trend of the Mariners recruiting from the Astros coaching staff.
The decision was reported by Matt Young of the Houston Chronicle on November 3, 2026.
