West Ham United have appointed Scott Parker as their new manager, with the Championship promotion specialist described as a "sensible appointment" for the Premier League club. Parker, who has previously guided Fulham and Bournemouth to promotion from the Championship, takes charge at the London Stadium with the task of establishing West Ham as a consistent top-flight competitor.
The appointment raises questions about whether Parker will receive sufficient backing in the transfer market to bridge the gap between Championship success and Premier League sustainability. His track record in the second tier is proven, but the step up to managing a club with European ambitions presents a different challenge entirely.
