Japan Football Association president Kozo Tashima will stand against incumbent Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election, according to a report published Thursday.
The candidacy sets up a contest for the leadership of world football's governing body. Infantino, who has served as FIFA president since 2016, was photographed at Trump Tower ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Tashima's challenge marks the first announced opposition to Infantino's bid for another term. The election timeline and further details were not immediately disclosed.
