Speculation is mounting that Dodge could return to the NASCAR Cup Series for the 2027 season, a move that would significantly alter the competitive landscape and spark intense competition for manufacturer-backed seats.
The potential return of the Stellantis brand, which last competed full-time in NASCAR's top series in 2012, raises immediate questions about which teams would secure Dodge machinery and which drivers would pilot them. Current Cup Series organizations without manufacturer alliances, as well as existing Ford, Chevrolet, and Toyota teams seeking new partnerships, would likely vie for the opportunity.
The news comes as the series continues its 2026 campaign. On September 12, 2026, Kaulig Racing driver AJ Allmendinger participated in practice and qualifying for the Enjoy IL 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, highlighting the ongoing season amid the off-track manufacturer discussions.
No official confirmation has been issued by NASCAR or Stellantis regarding a 2027 entry. The sanctioning body's charter system and manufacturer regulations would govern any new entrant's integration into the series.
