The Edmonton Oilers became the first NHL team to dress a full-time emergency backup goaltender when Brett Epp, wearing number 00, suited up for their game against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, November 5, 2026, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Epp, who serves as the team's designated emergency backup, was on the bench for the third period of the contest. The move marks a historic first for the league, which typically relies on local amateur goaltenders for emergency situations.
