Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is set to face Australian cruiserweight titleholder Jai Opetaia on the undercard of the highly anticipated Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua showdown in Cardiff, according to reports published Wednesday.
The bout would mark Wilder's return to the ring following his knockout loss to Zhilei Zhang in June 2024. Opetaia, who holds the IBF and The Ring cruiserweight titles, would be moving up in weight for the challenge.
The Fury-Joshua card, long discussed by promoters and broadcasters, is targeting a stadium date in the Welsh capital. Adding Wilder-Opetaia as a co-feature would give the event significant drawing power across multiple weight divisions.
Wilder, 39, holds a career record of 43-4-1 with 42 knockouts. Opetaia, 29, is undefeated at 26-0 with 20 knockouts and is widely regarded as the top cruiserweight in the world.
