Four-star forward Asa Montgomery, ranked No. 14 in the 2027 recruiting cycle by 247Sports, announced his commitment to Duke on Wednesday. The 6-foot-7 small forward from Powder Springs, Georgia, chose the Blue Devils over finalists LSU, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and UConn.
Montgomery becomes the third member of Duke's 2027 recruiting class, joining Australian guard Luke Paul and Kager Knueppel, the younger brother of former Duke standout and Charlotte Hornets player Kon Knueppel. The addition elevates Duke's 2027 class to No. 5 nationally.
Under head coach Jon Scheyer, Duke has secured a top-two ranked recruiting class in each of his three seasons and is on pace to repeat the feat. 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein praised Montgomery's instincts on both ends of the floor, noting his defensive versatility and willingness to do the "little things" that could earn him early playing time.
Montgomery recently played alongside incoming Duke freshman Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje on the USA Basketball Men's U17 National Team that defeated Serbia this summer. Due to NBA age requirements, Montgomery will not be eligible for the 2027 NBA Draft and is expected to play two seasons at Duke before entering the professional ranks.
