Los Angeles Lakers forward Rui Hachimura has commented on his departure from the franchise, telling reporters "it was them" when asked about the circumstances surrounding his exit. The remarks were reported by Lakers Wire's Robert Marvi on Thursday.
Hachimura, who joined the Lakers in a trade from the Washington Wizards during the 2022-23 season, did not elaborate further on the brief statement. The 26-year-old Japanese international averaged 13.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in his first full season with Los Angeles.
The Lakers have not issued an official response to Hachimura's comments. The team enters the 2026-27 season with a revamped roster following several offseason moves.
