Following Week 7 of the NFL season, the New York Jets find themselves in a rare position with three selections inside the top 12 of the 2027 NFL Draft, according to a new mock draft from CBS Sports. The draft order is based on current win-loss records with strength of schedule as a tiebreaker. The Jets acquired their extra first-round picks through prior trades involving veteran players, a situation mirrored by the Cleveland Browns who also hold two first-rounders.
Jets' Triple Threat
With the seventh overall pick, the Jets select Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr, viewed as the franchise's future at the position. At pick 10, they add Clemson cornerback Ashton Hampton to address a secondary that finished last season without an interception. With the 12th pick, obtained from the Dallas Cowboys, New York chooses Ole Miss defensive tackle Will Echoles, a potential replacement for Quinnen Williams. The three-pick haul could reshape the roster if the right head coaching hire is made.
Top of the Draft
The Los Angeles Chargers take Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith with the first overall pick, the top-rated prospect in the class. The Tennessee Titans follow with Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore at No. 2. The Miami Dolphins select Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker at No. 3, while the Washington Commanders and Houston Texans bolster their pass rush with Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons (No. 4) and South Carolina's Dylan Stewart (No. 5) respectively. The Philadelphia Eagles round out the top six with Indiana wide receiver Charlie Becker.
Other Notable Selections
Arizona takes Miami quarterback Darian Mensah at No. 8, Tampa Bay selects LSU tight end Trey'Dez Green at No. 9 despite a season-ending injury, and New Orleans adds Georgia linebacker Chris Cole at No. 11. The draft continues with offensive line help for Atlanta (Jordan Seaton, No. 15), Baltimore (Trevor Goosby, No. 16), and Cincinnati (Lance Heard, No. 23). The 2027 NFL Draft is scheduled for April 29-May 1 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
