NBA Hall of Famer and longtime TNT analyst Charles Barkley displayed visible emotion while addressing the departure of his broadcast partner Ernie Johnson, according to reports from Dayton, Ohio. The moment occurred on March 17, 2026, as Barkley appeared at UD Arena ahead of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament First Four game between NC State and Texas.
Barkley and Johnson have formed one of sports broadcasting's most enduring partnerships on TNT's "Inside the NBA" studio show, alongside Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal. Their on-air chemistry and genuine friendship have made the program a cultural touchstone for basketball fans for decades.
While specific details about Johnson's exit were not disclosed in the initial report, Barkley's reaction underscored the deep personal and professional bond between the two broadcasters. Johnson has been with Turner Sports since 1989 and has served as the studio host for NBA coverage since 1990.
