Hyrox has taken a significant step toward Olympic inclusion by forming a partnership with World Triathlon, the sport's global governing body. The agreement establishes "hybrid racing" as a recognized discipline within World Triathlon, with the ultimate ambition of gaining Olympic and Paralympic status.

The collaboration will see Hyrox events contested across three formats: ultimate, fast, and ultra, each sanctioned and governed by World Triathlon. World Triathlon president Antonio Arimany described hybrid racing as "a natural evolution for our movement" and said the partnership would accelerate growth, open new opportunities for national federations, and strengthen the sport at every level.

Hyrox co-founder Christian Toetzke called the deal "a monumental step" toward the vision of building a global sport that could earn a place on the world's biggest athletic stage. He added that hybrid racing is now officially on the road to the Olympics.

The announcement drew mixed reactions from elite triathletes. Great Britain's Olympic champion Alex Yee shared a poll with his 227,000 followers showing 82% opposed to the move. Fellow British triathlete Max Stapley called the partnership "crap," while Poland's Roksana Slupek questioned what triathlon would gain, stating the two sports have "absolutely nothing in common."

Founded in 2017, Hyrox is primarily an indoor discipline where athletes complete eight legs of a 1km run followed by functional fitness exercises. World championships are held annually in singles and doubles. Under the new agreement, Hyrox will continue to oversee world, continental, and national championships for elite athletes in the "ultimate" format, while the "fast" and "ultra" formats offer high-intensity and extended adaptations. Only sports governed by recognized international federations complying with the Olympic Charter and anti-doping codes are eligible for Olympic inclusion.
