As the 2026 MLB offseason approaches, Yahoo Sports has outlined one potential trade candidate from each National League West team ahead of the 2027 season.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Teoscar Hernández
Outfielder Teoscar Hernández, under contract through 2029 with a $22 million salary in 2027 and a $15 million club option for 2028, could be moved as top prospect Josue De Paula pushes for roster space. Hernández batted .267 with 16 home runs in 2026 after five straight seasons of 25-plus homers. Potential landing spots include the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, and San Diego Padres.
San Diego Padres: Luis Campusano
Catcher Luis Campusano, controlled through 2029, posted a .265/.363/.433 slash line with eight home runs in 71 games in 2026 despite a toe fracture. The Padres may trade him to address a desperate need for starting rotation help, especially after ace Michael King opted out of his contract. Top prospect Ethan Salas is expected to debut in 2027. Potential suitors: Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees.
Arizona Diamondbacks: Lars Nootbaar
Acquired at the 2026 trade deadline, outfielder Lars Nootbaar is a free agent after 2028. He slashed .261/.367/.418 with 14 homers in his best season (2023) but has struggled to replicate that form. Arizona could deal him to restock the farm system if a rebuild materializes. Potential destinations: New York Mets, Padres, Kansas City Royals.
San Francisco Giants: Camilo Doval
Reliever Camilo Doval, a free agent after 2028 earning $6.1 million in 2027, has a 3.86 ERA over 126 innings from 2025-26 after a dominant 2022-23 (2.73 ERA). The Giants need bullpen help but could trade Doval to fill other roster holes. Potential landing spots: Rangers, Royals, Yankees.
Colorado Rockies: Willi Castro
Utility player Willi Castro, signed for veteran presence, hit 15 home runs with a .260/.331/.417 line (.748 OPS) in 2026, though home/away splits were stark (.309/.360/.475 at Coors Field vs .215/.306/.363 away). He is due $6.4 million in 2027 before free agency in 2028. Potential suitors: Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox.
