Yahoo Sports has released its opening day top 25 rankings for the 2026-27 men's college basketball season, with the Florida Gators claiming the No. 1 spot ahead of the Duke Blue Devils and Illinois Fighting Illini. The rankings reflect a landscape heavily shaped by name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals and transfer portal activity, as programs reload after significant roster turnover.

Florida earned the top ranking by returning its top two scorers, Alex Condon and Thomas Haugh, along with two of its top three rebounders and rim protectors. Duke, coming off a 35-win season, reloads with high-potential freshmen like Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje, returning impact player Patrick Ngongba II, and transfer portal addition John Blackwell. Illinois, a Final Four participant last year, returns three starters led by sophomore forward David Mirkovic.

The top five is rounded out by Arizona at No. 4, anchored by elite post defender Motiejus Krivas after losing three NBA-bound stars, and Michigan State at No. 5, led by preseason Player of the Year candidate Jeremy Fears Jr. The defending national champion UConn Huskies sit at No. 6, guided by freshman Braylon Mullins and preseason Big East Player of the Year Silas Demary Jr.

Other notable placements include Texas (No. 7), Houston (No. 8), Tennessee (No. 9), and Virginia (No. 10). The rankings also highlight key transfer portal additions such as Milan Momcilovic to Kentucky (No. 23), Flory Bidunga to Louisville (No. 11), and Juke Harris to Tennessee. The 2026-27 season tips off on Monday.
