Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has informed the organization that he no longer wishes to remain with the team, according to interim general manager Shawn Horcoff. The revelation was reported by Ted Kulfan of The Detroit News on Thursday.
Horcoff, who assumed the interim GM role earlier this season, disclosed Larkin's stance during a media availability. The 28-year-old center has been the face of the franchise since being drafted 15th overall in 2014 and was named captain in 2021.
Larkin, a three-time All-Star, has spent his entire nine-year NHL career with Detroit, recording 547 points in 614 games. His current contract carries a $8.7 million cap hit through the 2028-29 season.
The development marks a significant turning point for a Red Wings franchise in the midst of a rebuild, having missed the playoffs for eight consecutive seasons. Larkin's potential departure would leave a substantial leadership and production void.
