Michigan defensive coordinator Jay Hill has indicated he would consider a return to a head coaching role, according to a report published Friday. Hill, who currently oversees the Wolverines' defense, was photographed on the sideline before Michigan's season-opening game against Western Michigan on September 5, 2026, at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.
The 2026 season marks Hill's tenure as defensive coordinator under head coach Sherrone Moore. His previous head coaching experience includes a stint at Weber State, where he led the program to multiple FCS playoff appearances before joining the Michigan staff.
Hill's openness to another head coaching opportunity comes as the college football coaching carousel begins to turn ahead of the 2027 hiring cycle. Several programs are expected to have vacancies following the current season.
