Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has called for an "honest" self-assessment from his players following their 1-0 loss to Sheffield United in the Championship on 30 October 2026.
Ben Brereton Diaz's 30th-minute strike secured the win for the Blades at Bramall Lane, leaving the Red Dragons with just three victories from their first 13 league matches this season.
Lacklustre First Half
Wrexham were significantly below par in the opening 45 minutes, managing only nine passes in the final third compared to Sheffield United's 68. They did not register a shot on target until Sam Smith's tame header was saved by Michael Cooper in the 96th minute.
"We were second best in the first 45 minutes," Parkinson told BBC Radio Wales. "We made them look a really good side."
Call for Individual Accountability
Parkinson urged his squad to be individually "self-analytical" ahead of their next match against Middlesbrough on Wednesday. "However you play, it's about 11 v 11, winning your individual duels and coming out on top of the player you're against," he said.
The manager included himself in the scrutiny: "I'll always look at myself and my contributions, I'm the manager and obviously it's a significant one."
Mounting Pressure
Despite overseeing three successive promotions between 2023 and 2025, Parkinson faces growing pressure after a slow start to the Championship campaign. Wrexham have lost three of their last four matches and face promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough and Wolverhampton Wanderers before the November international break.
Parkinson insisted he would not shy away from criticism: "I've built my career as a manager and a player on fighting and being resilient. I've got thick skin, but equally, if I was a supporter, I'd be very disappointed in the way the lads played in that first 45 minutes."
