Lakers owner Mark Walter and Josh Kushner of Thrive Capital have agreed on the outstanding terms for the sale of the NBA franchise, valued at a league-record $12.5 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.

The agreement, which still requires signatures and NBA Board of Governors approval, was finalized during a meeting at Walter's Florida home. Kushner, a venture capitalist and brother of Jared Kushner, has assured Walter that he has the funds to complete the transaction. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger is also part of Kushner's investment group.

Walter acquired a majority stake in the Lakers from the Buss family in 2025 for a $10 billion valuation and agreed to sell less than a year later. He has been involved in a federal loan investigation concerning his holding company TWG Global, and recently sold a small stake in Chelsea FC. The Dodgers, which Walter also owns, are not for sale, according to statements from his company.
