Houston Astros owner Jim Crane has detailed the reasoning behind the franchise's decision to hire Randy Flores away from the St. Louis Cardinals, according to a report by Joey Mistretta for ClutchPoints on Yahoo Sports.
The move sees Flores, who previously served in the Cardinals' front office, joining the Astros organization. Crane's explanation of the hiring decision highlights the strategic thinking behind bringing Flores into Houston's baseball operations structure.
Flores, a former major league pitcher, has built a reputation in front-office roles since retiring from playing. His departure from the Cardinals organization marks a notable personnel shift between two National League contenders.
The hiring was announced on October 31, 2026, as the Astros continue to shape their baseball operations department under Crane's ownership.
