Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has clarified the situation surrounding goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli in comments referencing Gianluigi Donnarumma, emphasizing that no player is guaranteed a starting position. The remarks, reported by City Xtra on October 30, 2026, come amid ongoing discussion about the club's goalkeeping hierarchy.
Maresca's "no player is undroppable" stance underscores his approach to squad competition. Rulli, the Argentine international, and Donnarumma, Italy's first-choice keeper, represent high-profile options for the position. The manager's comments suggest an open competition for the starting role rather than a predetermined hierarchy.
The clarification follows speculation about Rulli's role after recent matchday omissions. Maresca did not disclose specific tactical plans but reinforced that selection decisions will be based on form, training performance, and tactical requirements for each fixture.
