Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will step back into the ring on Saturday for the first time in over a year, facing WBC super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Alvarez lost his undisputed super middleweight title to Terence Crawford in September 2025, and Mbilli was elevated from interim to full champion by the WBC following Crawford's retirement. Despite not winning the belt in the ring, Mbilli is regarded as a world-class fighter with a relentless power-punching style.
Alvarez, a staple of pound-for-pound lists for nearly two decades, insists he still has plenty left. "I don't believe in shortcuts. I'm going straight for the champion because I already have the experience," Alvarez said at the final press conference. "I've been a champion for many years and I want to be a champion again."
