Major League Baseball has proposed pushing back the implementation of its desired salary cap to 2028, a move aimed at smoothing free agency signings as the league and the players' union face a looming deadline for a new collective bargaining agreement.
The proposal comes as both sides negotiate to avoid a potential work stoppage. The delay would give teams more flexibility during the upcoming free agency period while long-term financial structures are finalized.
