The Oklahoma City Thunder have decided not to sign free agent Ochai Agbaji, reversing a plan announced Friday to fill their final standard roster spot. The change comes after center Chet Holmgren underwent a biological treatment for a small patellar tendon tear and is expected to miss 8-10 weeks.
ESPN's Shams Charania first reported the Thunder's step back, which The Oklahoman confirmed Saturday. Oklahoma City is currently $6.9 million below the second apron with one open roster spot remaining.
The injury wave extends beyond Holmgren. Forward Jalen Williams had surgery Wednesday for a fractured fibula and dislocated left ankle, while guard Cason Wallace underwent surgery Friday for a left shoulder labral tear. Both players will be re-evaluated before the end of the regular season.
The Thunder are searching for answers amid the mounting injuries, with the front office now re-evaluating how to use the remaining roster spot.
