The New York Yankees have unveiled an "All-October Birthday Team" celebrating franchise legends born in the month of October. A historic photograph from October 7, 1960, captures pitcher Whitey Ford taking swings under the watchful eye of slugger Mickey Mantle during an early morning workout at Yankee Stadium ahead of the World Series.
The image, originally captioned "10/07/1960-New York, NY: Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford swings a couple of bats under the watchful eye of Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle, at an early morning workout in Yankee Stadium. The Series will resume here 10/8," highlights two of the franchise's most iconic October-born stars. Ford, born October 21, 1928, and Mantle, born October 20, 1931, anchor a lineage of Yankees greats with October birthdays.
The All-October Birthday Team concept honors the tradition of autumn excellence in the Bronx, though the complete roster was not detailed in the initial announcement.
