The lights went out due to a timer before the conclusion of the South-West Conference (SWC) girls soccer semifinal between No. 2 seed Pomperaug and Newtown on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. After the delay, Pomperaug prevailed 5-3 in a penalty shootout that went to a second round, securing a spot in the SWC championship game.
Pomperaug will face top seed Notre Dame Prep in the final on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Western Connecticut State University.
