Jess Fishlock aims to extend career in NWSL play-offs with Seattle Reign

Welsh legend Jess Fishlock, 39, will take the field for Seattle Reign against Orlando Pride on Sunday, 1 November 2026, in a match that could decide the final National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) play-off spot and potentially extend her 14-season career in Washington state.

The Reign, with whom Fishlock has won three NWSL Shields, are level on points with NC Courage and Denver Summit but hold a superior goal difference. A victory over Orlando would guarantee an eighth play-off appearance for Fishlock, who has never won the NWSL play-offs, finishing as runner-up in 2014, 2015 and 2023.

Fishlock, who retired from international duty in October 2025 after a record 166 caps for Wales, signed a new contract with Seattle a month later and confirmed in April 2026 that she would retire at the end of the season. Her club honours include two Champions League titles and the 2021 NWSL Most Valuable Player award.

The Reign are honouring the veteran midfielder with a commemorative photo booth, dedicated merchandise and an expected crowd of 16,000 at Lumen Field, where several members of Fishlock's family will be in attendance. "All I want to do is get this group into another round of play-offs and see what happens after that," Fishlock said.

After the season, Fishlock will join Rhian Wilkinson's Wales coaching staff for their World Cup play-off final against Norway. She recently sent a tongue-in-cheek message to Wilkinson urging a call-up, but acknowledged she will not play for Wales again.
