The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Miami Hurricanes 41-31 on October 14, 2023, at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill. The game has drawn attention due to allegations that ACC referees negated two onside kick attempts by North Carolina, a claim highlighted in recent coverage questioning whether officiating decisions preserved Miami's position in the contest.
Head coach Mario Cristobal led the Hurricanes in the matchup, while the Tar Heels' victory marked a significant conference win. The specific circumstances surrounding the onside kick rulings have not been detailed in available reports, but the incident has fueled debate about officiating standards in ACC football.
