Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell remains in a local hospital after suffering a neck injury during the team's Week 8 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The 26-year-old was strapped to a backboard and carted off the field in the fourth quarter.

The Lions announced Monday that Campbell continues to rest and recover, with preliminary indications described as positive. The team said it would not share further details out of respect for Campbell and his family.

Head coach Dan Campbell visited the linebacker Sunday night and spoke with his family. "It was good, it was positive," the coach said. "Got to see his parents, talk to his wife, and everybody's in good spirits. It's about the recovery, and it's a small setback."

The injury occurred on the first play of the fourth quarter when Campbell and teammate Eric O'Neill combined to tackle Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. Campbell went limp and lay motionless before trainers reached him. After about 10 minutes, he was immobilized and taken off the field.

The entire Lions team gathered to support their teammate as he left Ford Field. The defense also rallied for a moment after seeing one of their leaders go down.

In seven games this season, Campbell has recorded 57 tackles, two quarterback hits and a fumble recovery. He signed a four-year, $81 million extension six months ago, making him one of the highest-paid off-ball linebackers in the NFL. The 2023 first-round pick (No. 18 overall) out of Iowa had a career year in 2025 with 176 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, three forced fumbles and four passes defended, earning First Team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl selection.
