Alexander Zverev, who captured the French Open and US Open titles this year, suffered a defeat to Alex de Minaur on Saturday. The loss comes as Zverev was poised to ascend to the world number one ranking.
BBC Sport journalist Paul Battison reported on the match, which took place on October 31, 2026. Zverev's recent Grand Slam victories had positioned him as a strong contender for the top spot, but the defeat to De Minaur delays that milestone.
