The Detroit Tigers have regained right-handed reliever RJ Petit after losing him in the Rule 5 draft, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press. Petit, who pitched for the Double-A Erie SeaWolves during the 2025 season, returns to the organization following the draft process.
The Rule 5 draft allows teams to select players not on 40-man rosters, but the selecting team must keep the player on its major league roster for the entire season or offer him back to his original team. The Tigers' recovery of Petit suggests the selecting club did not meet those requirements.
Petit's return adds depth to Detroit's bullpen prospects as the organization continues to build its pitching pipeline.
