Pittsburgh Steelers executive Art Rooney Jr., widely regarded as a key architect of the franchise's 1970s dynasty, has been left off the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot, according to a report from Steelers Now.
Rooney Jr., son of Steelers founder Art Rooney Sr., served in various front-office roles during the team's run of four Super Bowl victories in six seasons from 1974 to 1979. His contributions to player personnel and scouting helped build rosters featuring Hall of Famers such as Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Lynn Swann, Jack Lambert, and "Mean" Joe Greene.
The omission marks another year without recognition for a front-office figure instrumental in one of the NFL's most dominant eras. The Pro Football Hall of Fame's contributor category has historically favored owners and league executives over team-level personnel directors and scouts.
