Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has commented on head coach Andy Reid's unwillingness to call quarterback sneaks, according to a report from HEAVY published on November 5, 2026.
The discussion centers on Reid's offensive play-calling tendencies, specifically his hesitation to utilize the quarterback sneak in short-yardage situations. Mahomes, who has been with the Chiefs since 2017, offered his perspective on the strategic decision-making behind this approach.
Quarterback sneaks have become increasingly common across the NFL as a high-percentage play for gaining minimal yardage, particularly on fourth down or goal-line situations. Reid's offense has historically favored alternative play designs in these scenarios.
The Chiefs' offensive philosophy under Reid has emphasized creative play-action, misdirection, and utilizing Mahomes' mobility outside the pocket rather than traditional power-running concepts up the middle.
