Victor Wembanyama delivered a historic performance, scoring a career-high 52 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 112-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday. The 22-year-old French center also grabbed 24 rebounds and blocked eight shots, becoming the first player in 52 years to record at least 50 points, 20 rebounds, and five blocks in a single game.

Wembanyama dominates both ends

Wembanyama had 29 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, and two steals by halftime. His previous career best was 50 points set in 2024. He also became the fifth player since 1982 to post at least 50 points and 20 rebounds in a game. The Spurs improved to 6-2 on the season. "I haven't been feeling great lately. I've been sick for a while. Today I felt like I got my legs back, so it should be more like this more often," Wembanyama said after the game.

Other NBA results

In Eastern Conference action, the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Detroit Pistons 112-106 behind 30 points from Jaylen Brown and 26 from Joel Embiid. All five Philadelphia starters reached double figures, and LeBron James added a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. The 76ers now hold the NBA's best record at 8-1. James downplayed early Finals talk: "It's too early to be talking about the Finals and things of that nature. We'll just continue to buy into what we want to do. We got a good team."

The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 116-103, with Luka Doncic scoring a game-high 40 points to reach 308 points on the season. Doncic became the first player to surpass 300 points in his first eight games of a season since Michael Jordan (303) in 1988-89. An incident involving a fan throwing a ball at an official led to the fan's removal.

London-born OG Anunoby contributed 18 points as the New York Knicks routed the Chicago Bulls 135-105 for their largest win of the season, improving to 4-4.
